South End Elementary School
Intersection of Iranistan Avenue & University Avenue
The concrete work for the new gymnasium is in progress. Work continues on the reinforcing for the existing concrete floor slabs. Abatement of the lead paint has started. Work on the new roof has begun. Interior partitions on all floors is under way. Mechanical and electrical work is in progress on all floors.

On May 8, 2007 the Cesar A. Batalla Elementary School was awarded the Award of Merit for K-12 schools by the Connecticut Building Congress.

Interior demolition is 90% complete. Contractors are currently working on removing the existing roof as well as installing HVAC and plumbing. Excavation for the gymnasium is ongoing.
